This time last year
Written by John Cotgrave
As rehearsals draw to a close for ‘Bedroom Farce’, my thoughts have returned to this time last year and ‘Roundelay’.
Ayckbourn’s 78th play is five interrelated one-act plays, written to be performed in any order determined randomly prior to performance, looking at the lives of a judge, agent, politician, budding star and novelist.
Paul Chamberlain our resident composer gave me a copy of the music recently and having listened to it many memories have come flooding back.
A very special production which I hope to revisit again in the not too distant future.
D&L had a hugely successful week at the Lawrence Batley Theatre selling out before production week. This was followed by a week at The Wimbledon New Studio Theatre. Whilst tickets sales were low, our spirits remained high throughout the week.
On the Thursday of production week Storm Doris hit the south east and brought chaos to the London transport network. The venue cancelled that evening’s performance and we all took the opportunity to go into town and see ‘Half A Sixpence’.
I’ve included several photos which have captured the essence of the production.
I’m off to dig out my script and have a re-read of this rather special Ayckbourn play.
